Sunday Inspiration #7
Today’s thought … Raise Your Standards
When you raise your standards to reflect your needs and values, the universe will line up behind your boundaries.

Today’s Coaching Exercise
Spend 5 or so minutes identifying 3 areas in your professional life where you need to raise your standards and log this information in your journal. Now, spend 10 or so minutes creating a plan of action for raising your personal standards in these areas. This may mean making a firm decision not to work on Sundays before 2PM so you can attend religious services (this is an example from my days as a law firm associate …) and making this decision clear to your team, law partners and clients. Or, it could involve letting your team or law partners know that your blackberry is off between 6:30PM and 8:00PM so you can enjoy dinner with your significant other or put your kids to bed.
When you define your boundaries and make it clear how they will not affect your work, you will be amazed at the change in your stress level and increased fulfillment at work and home.
Until next time … Take GREAT Care!

Today’s Thought … Be Yourself
If you do not wear shoes shaped like feet, eventually your feet will be shaped like your shoes. (Based on a quote referenced by Thomas Leonard).
This Week’s Coaching Exercise

Spend time thinking about ways that you can incorporate your authentic self (e.g., your values, needs, wants and desires) into your professional life. List 1 to 3 things you will commit to incorporating into your life this week.
After you have completed the steps above, spend 5 to 10 minutes thinking about how you will feel after you have incorporated these things into your life. Record your feelings in your journal in great detail. As with all of our journaling assignments, the more detail the better. Now, take the action necessary to become more authentic in your professional life. Baby steps are fine for now … just get moving!

Sunday Inspiration #2
Today’s Thought: Fear (when properly managed) can promote creativity, preparedness and excellence.
This Week’s Coaching Exercise
Get out your journal (if you don’t have a journal- you can order one here) and write down the 3 things that scare you most about making a transition that you know you need to make in 2008. Your transitions may include things like (i) changing law firms; (ii) positioning yourself for success as a new partner; (iii) transitioning to a government position; (iv) moving in-house; (vi) leaving the legal profession altogether or (vii) moving to a new city for what looks like a fantastic opportunity.

List 3 things you can do or systems you can put in place to reduce the chances that what you fear will become a reality. This exercise supports your discovery of what concrete steps you need to take to get past your fears so that you can achieve accelerated success.
Now … schedule time to put the steps you have identified in action. Let us know if we can help. You will find that a structured coaching program can help you achieve greater success … faster! Until next time … Take GREAT Care!
